Jay Morris), which classifies mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine as Schedule I controlled substances. Possession of over 14 grams carries up to 5 years in prison. The original ban passed 87-6. A repeal effort, HB 778 (Provides with respect to the possession of Kratom), was introduced in the 2026 regular session and referred to the House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice on March 9, 2026, but has not advanced to a committee vote.
