The proposed law would add Chapter 50, "Drugs and Drug Products," to the Village Code, making it unlawful to sell, offer for sale, distribute or otherwise provide kratom products in the village, natural leaf included. Penalties read into the record were up to $1,000 for a first offense, $2,500 for a second, and $5,000 or revocation of any applicable permit or license after that, with each day a separate offense, handled by summons as a code violation rather than a crime.
Nothing was adopted on October 6. The Board of Trustees asked counsel to remove possession and to expand the definition of kratom to add 7-OH and any other natural or synthetic ingredient or derivative of the kratom plant, then voted to put the law at the top of the agenda for its next meeting.
On October 20, 2026 the Board discussed the revised draft, first on its agenda, but did not vote. The discussion included adding back possession in public places, and the Village Attorney is still revising the draft. No vote date has been announced.
