Grant County commissioners adopted an ordinance banning the sale and distribution of kratom products in the unincorporated parts of the county, closing the gap left by its cities.

Commissioners Kevin Burgess, Cindy Carter and Rob Jones adopted the ordinance following a public hearing. Fines start at $500 for a first offense and rise to $2,000 for a third or later violation, charged either as civil infractions or as misdemeanors.

Ephrata, George, Mattawa, Royal City and Warden had already banned sales, and Moses Lake set a 21 and over limit instead, so the practical effect is that Grant County is closed apart from Moses Lake and Quincy.

Two dates are still unconfirmed and are separate questions: the adoption date, which follows the county hearing held September 8, 2026, and the ordinance effective date, which has not been published. The county ordinance record settles both. Whether the ordinance distinguishes natural leaf from concentrates is also unconfirmed.
